Job Purpose:
The Desktop Engineer role provides onsite support services for IT projects, incidents, and requests to multiple Advania UK clients. The position also includes technical support and guidance for end users and colleagues as needed.
In this role, the Desktop Engineer manages and supports desktop environments to ensure secure and efficient operation of endpoints throughout the organisation. Responsibilities involve using tools such as Microsoft Intune, Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, and Defender for Endpoint to maintain device compliance, security, and user productivity. This role combines technical proficiency with communication skills to assist users and collaborate with IT teams.
The budgeted salary for this role is between £22,000 - £25,000 per annum
To be considered for this entry-level role we are looking for the following qualifying skills and knowledge:
- Cloud technologies: Microsoft Intune, and Azure, i.e. having knowledge and awareness of what they can fundamentally do. If you hold certifications even better but this is desirable not essential
- Productivity applications: Microsoft 365 & Office 365, print solutions and bespoke client software - we are looking for entry level experience or at a minimum you will have an understanding of these
- Workstation Hardware and software and peripherals; printers, access points, etc: We support all desktop operating systems as well as workstation hardware - again, this is a knowledge-based requirement, including installing and downloading applications. We will train you how to do this but having an awareness around this is important to be considered for this role
- Good implementation skills and knowledge in laptop builds, mobile set up and hardware replacement - this is desirable not essential
- Be able to demonstrate passion for customer service - you will act as an ambassador for Advania UK and the client always
- Flexibility to work weekends and other out of hours duties if required - we need people to demonstrate strong team player skills when facing a team deadline

- A full clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote sites throughout the UK
- Must be a practical individual and have the ability to mount monitors, access points, etc; training will be provided where required
- Willingness to take ownership of all IT queries and manage, with other parties, through to completion
- Contribute fully as an active team member and ensure personal and team objectives are achieved
- Undertake other tasks as assigned by management that may not necessarily be implementation or project centric
- Regular drug and alcohol testing will be required as part of this role
- BPSS and DBS checks will if required as part of this role; this will be sponsored by Advania UK
Specific Role Responsibilities
- Working under the guidance of the operations team be responsible for the delivery, or part delivery of related project tasks, incidents, and functional user support as per customer requirements.
- Provide technical support for desktop systems, applications, and end users.
- Assist with device management using Microsoft Intune under supervision.
- Support Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive).
- Learn and help with identity and access management via Entra ID.
- Monitor device security and report issues through Defender for Endpoint.
- Follow all organizational security policies and procedures.
- Work with senior IT staff to resolve issues and support projects.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including asset and configuration records.
- Log time spent on tasks and projects in detail.
- Manage assigned tickets and tasks to completion; update status as needed in the ticketing system.
- Support onsite teams, troubleshoot hardware, and perform hardware replacements.
